The first steps in your Joomla! website are to install additionally extensions which come in the form of components, modules and mambots. The process is a simple one and is controlled in the Joomla! administrator. For Joomla! 1.0x, each type of extension has its only section for installation. This tutorial will take you through the process to install each.

Installing an Extension

• First, we need to login to the Joomla! administrator. You can access the Joomla! administrator by typing the following into your web browser (edit the link below to fit the context of your website).

  http://www.yoursite.com

  You will come across the login panel shown below. Enter your administrative username and password which were created when you install Joomla!
  
• We are now in the Joomla! administrative console. You will notice Installers on the navigation bar, located at the top of the administrator. When you hover your cursor over this menu item, a dropdown will appear. This has 6 items situated upon it:
  1. Template - Sites
  2. Template - Admin
  3. Languages
  4. Components
  5. Modules
  6. Mambots
  
  The last 3 from the list are what we need to concentrate on as these are Joomla! extensions. When you select either of the Extension menu items, you will come across an installers page. The installers page is the same, independent of your choice in the menu apart from the title which verifies which section your are in, i.e. Mambot Install Manager.
• The next step is to use the installers page to install your extensions into Joomla!. Locate the Choose File or Browse button. This will produce a popup in which you must locate the template file on your computer. Components usually have the prefix comp_, modules have mod_ and mambots, bot_. Be aware that not all extensions conform to the prefixes described.
  
  Once you have find your file, you need to install it. This is down by selected the Upload File & Install button.
  
  Your internet speed, your server speed and the size of the file dictates the time it takes to install. Do not browse from that page whilst installation is occurring. A introductory page will appear and you will then select continue.
  
  The extensions will now be installed.
